If you are shopping for that finished, proven, sweet, (a little bit introverted) gentleman of a horse to enjoy, this is one to consider. “Speedy” (yes, air quotes are required) is one of the good ones! His specialty is in the western pleasure and he is very broke and knows his job well. He has been packing around his amateur select rider these last several years dabbling in an occasional local AQHA show but mainly enjoying the lower cost of the competitive local open shows. He even spent a season supporting a college equestrian team being ridden by many different types of riders over the course of the season. He hasnt been hauled across the country every weekend, showing for his owner was more focused on having fun and being low key - perfectly inline with “Speedy’s” style. Unfortunately she is looking to take a step back from showing to pursue and enjoy other interests, so “Speedy” is looking for his new show partner.

Under saddle “Speedy” really loves the rail classes, especially the western pleasure. He has such a nice slow, sometimes too slow, of a jog - he doesnt want to go anywhere fast. His lope is very much the same, he has one gear and puts it on autopilot keeping his rhythm steady and true. Packing around the rail in a pleasure class is his happy place - He has done all the different types of rail classes in addition to the WP as he has a super cute little long trot on him for hunt seat, and a proven contender in the entry level ranch classes - a pretty versatile guy! He also has performed very well in the patterns and trail class - he is very graceful over poles - however the pattern classes do challenge his confidence level a little bit as maneuvers are suppose to be quick, crisp and transitions come up fast mentally for him. He has several AQHA wins in the pattern classes with a youth too but needs a rider that understands him, and can be there for him as a confidence builder letting him go his pace and guiding him through - show footage in the sale video.

On the ground, “Speedy” is amazing at showmanship - he is finished, sharp, and ready to do more winning in this class. He also clips without the need for a twitch (as long as there is a little patience for the ears), he stands well for bathing (better with warm water), and is super easy to have around the farm. He is the same horse each time you pull him out of his stall whether you wanted to focus on maneuvers to improve or just to enjoy the ride that day. He stands great in cross ties for grooming and saddling. Loads and unloads, settling very well into new places.

Overall, the best fit for “Speedy” is someone who is experienced enough to be the herd leader - “Speedy” can be a little bit of a worry wart if the decision making is always up to him. He prefers someone to layout the plan, set the expectation, and he will happily oblige being more of a follower than a leader. The more structured and consistent his life is, the more he knows what to expect and that gives him his confidence. All “Speedy” wants in life is to be called a good boy and be loved on by his person - he tries so hard to please.

He does not have any maintenance. Stands great for the farrier - currently wearing plain-jane front shoes for show season. He has great feet and legs - that plus his cute chunky body do very well in the performance halter classes!
